• MY WORKS: SOLD, FOR SALE IN MY ETSY STORE, FOR SALE @ WALRUS

    BIO

I've loved wood work since I was introduced to it in my high school days. And since then, creating hand-made wooden items has been a passion of mine. Especially turned wooden bowls using a wood lathe. Taking a block of solid wood and using the lathe to form something is both exciting to me and even stress relieving. I get deeply immersed into each project, much like being glued to the screen when a great suspense movie is on. You just never really know what you’re going to get when you start turning a bowl. Even shaving off a layer as fine as 1/32 of an inch off the inside or outside of it can change the piece in big ways. The grain patterns, size and shape will never be the same as the last one you've made. I don't use a pre-made patterns, just "in the moment creativity" when I start a piece. I love to simply see where my chisels take me. Each bowl is truly unique and a one of a kind item, which is why I love making them so much.

Species I commonly use are Maple, Arbutus, Walnut, Red Cedar, Douglas Fir, Apple, Cherry, and other British Columbia native species. Almost all of my bowls and wooden items will feature irregular traits such as spalting, figuring, quilting, burl, giving them truly unique and wild looks. All of my bowls are finished with food safe products and are suitable to hold dry foods if desired. The bowls can be cleaned with a damp cloth and immediately wiped dry. Never submerse them in water or put them in a dish washer. If the finish wears over time, you can polish in products like mineral oil or bees wax based pastes.

My goal is to make beautiful one of a kind items that make people happy and will be enjoyed for years! Feel free to email me any questions you may have regarding my processes or care for bowls and other works.

Special thanks to: Matt Miyagawa, Daniel and Caroline @ Walrus, Rocco, Ryan and Tiana Dear, Gary Forbes, Julie Verzosa, Jess Dozois, Carli Spielman, and Mom.
